Our market is one where opportunities don’t usually fall into one’s lap, we all need to be creative in identifying and developing them unique ways. That’s often how we leverage our reach within different geographies and across the industry to fill a need and build new and lucrative options for our customer. UCM’s team activated our diverse network of capabilities and assets, bringing together agents and customers, a variety of vessels – some ships, some barges – container companies and terminal operators to create a hub of deliveries for a new ship charter opportunity.

Eight separate feeder vessels were called upon to serve the Chinese ports of Ningbo and Shanghai, Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, along with Laem Chabang and Bangkok, Thailand. Each then sailed to Humen, China for discharge and loading to another, larger container ship that UCM identified within the market and chartered specifically for this purpose. The chartered vessel will call on the Port of Los Angeles, where it will discharge all containers and the ship will be reloaded with new cargo for the return voyage, along with empty containers that require repositioning.

We combined many of our capabilities to assure successful transport from first phone call to final port call and discharge, and developed a new way for our customers to serve their customers and profit along with them.”
